Jasmine Moreland, director of external affairs and responsible gaming at the Michigan Gaming Control Board, has been named to the Emerging Leaders of Gaming 40 Under 40 Class of 2027. The programme recognises gaming-industry professionals under 40 judged to be making a significant impact.

Moreland was nominated by MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams and selected from hundreds of nominations across the industry. The Innovation Group announced the class on Sept. 16, with honorees drawn from a global range of operators, marketers, legal and regulatory specialists, manufacturers, suppliers, tribal-gaming leaders and academics.

The ELG programme was founded by The Innovation Group in 2012 to offer recognition and professional-development opportunities to younger professionals. It is presented with Global Gaming Business and iGaming Business, and winners are chosen by an independent selection committee. The class was celebrated at a Sept. 30 networking reception held alongside the Global Gaming Expo at the Venetian Expo in Las Vegas.

Moreland joined the MGCB in 2020 and has led its legislative advocacy, tribal relations, responsible-gaming work and communications strategy. Her team has been credited with the Emmy Award-winning “Don’t Regret the Bet” campaign, the youth-focused “Don’t Bet on Your Future” initiative, the Gambling Awareness Program and the regulator’s partnership with gambling-blocking software provider Gamban.

“Don’t Regret the Bet” launched statewide on March 6, 2023, during Problem Gambling Awareness Month. Developed with Lansing-based King Media, the multimedia campaign encourages residents to gamble responsibly in Michigan’s legal, regulated markets and has used television, radio, digital advertising, social media, streaming services and podcast audio.

The MGCB expanded that work on May 11 with “Don’t Bet on Your Future,” a statewide campaign intended to protect young Michiganders from underage and problem gambling. The initiative broadened the earlier platform with resources for youth, schools and families, including a High School Boosters Program under which eligible clubs can receive up to $4,000 for sharing approved prevention messaging.

Moreland also secured funding to sustain Michigan’s charitable-gaming programme and continuing appropriations for “Don’t Regret the Bet.” Her legislative work included defending the MGCB’s regulatory authority against redemption-gaming legislation and helping update the state’s statutory definition of a slot machine to close gaps exploited by illegal operators.

Before joining the regulator, Moreland was deputy director of legislative affairs for Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and a policy adviser in the Michigan House of Representatives, where she worked on Raise the Age and internet-gaming reform. She holds a Master of Public Administration from Central Michigan University and a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University’s James Madison College.
