bet365 said it officially entered Alberta’s iGaming market on July 13, bringing its sportsbook and casino offerings to the province as the new regulated online gambling regime opened. Alberta became Canada’s second province, after Ontario, to run a commercial online casino and sports-betting market open to private competition.
The provincial framework was set out in the iGaming Alberta Act, known as Bill 48, which passed in 2025 to replace the long-running government-run PlayAlberta service. The Alberta iGaming Corporation is to oversee the market, while Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis sets and enforces the rules.
That shift comes against a backdrop of heavy offshore play. Provincial estimates cited in reporting put about 70% of Alberta’s online gambling activity on unregulated sites, and the point of the new structure is to move more of it onto licensed platforms where play can be monitored and taxed.
By launch day, GamblingNews said 50 operators had completed registration with the regulator. InterGame had earlier reported at least 46 confirmed plans to take part, with brands including DraftKings, FanDuel, bet365, BetMGM, PointsBet, theScore Bet and BetRivers among those preparing to go live.
In its own pitch, bet365 said Alberta customers can access competitive odds and live betting. The company also highlighted its Early Payout Offer, which pays out early when a team takes a decisive lead, and Sub On Play On, which automatically rolls certain player-prop wagers, including anytime goalscorer, assists and player shots, to a substitute if the original player is replaced.
bet365 said Sub On Play On generated about $40 million in payouts globally during the first 10 days of the 2026 World Cup. It also said responsible-gambling tools, including spend and session limits, are built into the app, and that its Alberta entry builds on the 'Winning is Everything’ campaign.
The Alberta launch also sits inside bet365’s wider Canadian push. The company said it is an Official Sports Betting and Online Casino Partner of the CFL in Ontario and Alberta, with plans to use premium content, broadcast-visible media, digital storytelling and fan-facing experiences throughout the season.
Trip Stoddard, bet365’s head of development, said Canada is a key market and that cementing the brand’s presence in Alberta marks another milestone in the company’s long-term commitment to Canadian sports fans. He added that the company is proud to work alongside Alberta’s regulators to give fans a trusted platform through a responsible, world-class experience. The 2026 CFL season will culminate in the 113th Grey Cup in Calgary on November 15.
