Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed SB 26-131 into law, tightening rules on how internet sports betting operators can accept deposits tied to wagers.
Under the bill, an internet sports betting operator is prohibited from accepting deposits using a credit card in connection with the acceptance of a sports bet.
The bill also sets a limit on how many times an individual can make separate deposits within a twenty-four-hour period. A bill-text excerpt provided for SB 26-131 states operators shall not accept more than five separate deposits from an individual during that period.
Reporting on what the “final” limit became differs. Sports Betting Dime reported that the final law limits users from depositing funds more than six times in a 24-hour period, while KJCT reported that the proposal would limit users to five deposits per day.
Violating the credit-card deposit prohibition would be treated as a class 2 misdemeanor. The bill also allows the commission to assess a maximum penalty of $25,000 for violations of that credit-card deposit prohibition.
The law’s effective date is set for Aug. 12, 2026, with the act taking effect at 12:01 a.m. after the specified ninety-day period.
From 12:01 a.m. on Aug. 12, 2026, the credit-card deposit ban and the bill’s deposit-frequency limit begin applying to internet sports betting operators under SB 26-131.
