FanDuel said responsible gaming now guides decisions well beyond its in-app safety features, including advertising placement, VIP customer relationships, corporate communications and the long-term planning of its sports business.
The company set out the approach at its Play With a Plan 2026 employee event on Sept. 16, where President Christian Genetski joined senior leaders to discuss how it is applied in daily work. FanDuel said it blocked about 1 million attempts to create accounts in the preceding year because it could not verify the applicant’s identity, and carried out 58,000 manual responsible-gaming reviews intended to identify and address potential customer risk.
Its protections include identity verification, financial safeguards for customer data and monitoring for possible underage or proxy betting. Customer-facing measures include My Spend and Real-Time Check-In, which are designed to help users understand and manage their play.
In advertising, the media team considers the age of an audience, whether a media partner can restrict delivery to people aged 21 and over, the content surrounding an ad and its frequency before buying placements. The communications team’s role includes explaining the company’s customer protections to reporters and other stakeholders, FanDuel said.
The company also used the event to address its VIP business. Jeff Lowich, vice-president of VIP and retail experience, said staff can identify customers who may benefit from player tools and direct them to relevant resources. FanDuel said its VIP objective is to win more of a customer’s existing play rather than encourage higher spending.
That position echoes FanDuel’s earlier response to congressional concern over its VIP programme. As covered in August, the company told lawmakers that VIP customers were subject to the same responsible-gaming standards as other users, while receiving additional oversight and access to support resources.
FanDuel said responsible gaming is a core consideration when it evaluates new ideas, sets business priorities and plans for its sports operation. Its strategic-planning team works with responsible-gaming specialists, with the stated aim of making those considerations routine for employees.
The company described a shift from building tools to measuring their effect and tailoring them more precisely to different customers. It said it works with independent researchers to assess its interventions and collaborates through the Responsible Online Gaming Association on industry standards and best practices.
Play With a Plan is a company-wide campaign that uses behavioural research to frame existing tools around proactive management of play. FanDuel previously said use of its responsible-gaming tools had risen 41% year on year to a company record, while 56% of participants in its My Spend campaign returned to use such tools within 90 days. Real-Time Check-In, introduced in 2025, uses deposit data and machine learning to prompt customers when a deposit differs from their established pattern, allowing them to reduce the amount, set a limit or review spending through My Spend.
